Halp! Fixing my computer

Okay, so about a month ago, my computer died. The hard drive crapped out, so I got a new blank hard drive. I've got an XP Pro install disc, and I go to install windows, and all the files and whatnot load, and when Windows goes to start, I get a blue screen that says:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

blah blah blah

Technical information:

pci.sys

What I gather is, that pci.sys is failing to open, thus keeping windows from starting. Any idea how to fix this?

hmm.

check your Ram with this:

I would also try taking out extra hardware you dont need. installing windows. then putting it when windows is totally finished installing.

also if the disk you are using isn't SP2 or higher, you need to get one. Pirate it ..

The computer won't boot period. It's on a brand new hard drive. I saw someone recommended a RAM check on another forum where someone had a similar problem, so I just replaced the RAM with a brand new stick. Maybe that will help.

Is the HDD a SATA or IDE HDD? If it is SATA, you might have to hit F6 during install to load the SATA drivers. Also, what service pack version is your disc? If you have a CD burner and internet access, you can update it to SP3 before you install. Google slipstream SP3.
