half life 2 memory read error

has anyone found a solution to this? for me, when i go through the door at the end of the first alley it hangs then says the memory cannot be read. type "half life 2 memory error" in google and you'll see it is an uncommon problem. i dled it on torrent and had the problem..then i downloaded the demo and had the problem so i bought it off amazon and i know that when it comes that i'll have the same problem. i just want to know how to fix it. if you have the game, then you'll know what i'm talking about. it's annoying as hell and i wanna test out the graphics of this machine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

that might solve your problem. ive gotten pretty far in that game, and once you reach ravenhome - you wont be able to play for a few days. trust me.

it says that i dont have anything newer....and i am also using the stock vid card which happens to be some built in intel pos.........even though all the highest settings are recommended. i'll have more informaiton once the full version gets here.

From what I read. It sound like you need a patch, your RAM may be defective or you may have to rename HL 2 to Half Life 21. Don't know for sure though.

Memory error is also connected to graphic cards. Your card may not be able to display everything at once (running out of memory), thus causing it to crash. Try tunring down your settings, colour, ect. Amnt. of objects, distance. Whatever settings there are.

If you can't stand that. Buy a new card.

this was common when hl2 was released but it was fixed, happened in css also, buy my PC and it wont happen.

lemans, good luck. When i got the game, i went through 5 video cards to get it to work. I was getting black and purple squares replacing my textures. I reformmated too. In the end i had to get a better video card. What kind of hardware are you using? Check for the latest drivers, try a reinstall, and mess with your settings. Then get back to me... it took me a week of constant work to get the game to work, i know what im talking about.

anyways, do you connect through steam and then play hl2? my understanding was that steam released a fix for this error a while back.

Can you give us the exact error.

Another solution would be to just re-install HL-2. Something might have gone wrong during the install.
