guitar players...

GOD I hate those tuners, plz for all that is human do not buy that. You need a Boss TU-2 tuner. Best tuner I have ever owned besides the rack mounts. It can also power 7 other pedals as well. A must have investment.

As far as teaching yourself, I was lucky enough to have teachers most of my guitar playing days. I first learned chords and learned how to play them easily and then I went to power chords, bar chords, etc. I then started to learn scales and keys and such. After that I kind of just started learning songs by ear. I'm currently working on sweeps which is possibly the hardest task I have ever tried to learn on guitar. I can only do 3 strings at the moment.

Oh...I learned on an acoustic then I went to electric. The action and strings used on an acoustic builds your finger strength so whenever you move to an electric you can play a lot faster and easier. That's just what I think. Hope any of this helps....lol

also to add, when you learn chords you need to learn strumming. Like try and work on 1 and ah 2 and ah....till four. So for example say 1 and ah outloud and strum as you say that. You are aiming to match your hand hitting the chord as you are saying 1, then and, then ah. This will teach you to strum on beats instead of just strumming widly and such. It's probably hard to understand what I mean b/c I'm a horrible person to explain stuff when it comes to guitar but I'm sure I could find something on youtube. Also you will need to learn how to do up and down strokes. You don't want to learn just to strum downwards, you need to learn both. It will help when you learn double picking. If you want some books to pick up try and find the books by brett duncan. I have 4 books by him and they teach basic and advance stuff. It also comes with cd's so you can play along. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up sometime.

A guy I've been watching on youtube is thenextleveguitar.com Pretty cool dude, kind of corny but he knows his stuff. Most of it is songs but he does have some scales, progressions and basic info.

edit: buy a metronome as well, lol.
