BALLSTON SPA -- A 20-year-old Ballston Spa man was killed and his passenger critically injured late Tuesday after a head-on collision on Middleline Road.
Benjamin J. Nobile of 458 Malta Ave. was pronounced dead at the scene of the 11:06 p.m. accident, while a passenger in his car, 19-year-old Cody M. Sherman of 120 So. Line Road, Galway, was listed in critical condition at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
According to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, Nobile was driving a 1990 Ford Mustang south on Middleline Road just north of Randall Road at a high rate of speed when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound pickup truck driven by 45-year-old Christopher Buckley of Lexington Street, Ballston Spa.
Nobile's car ended up on its side, with he and Sherman trapped inside.
Both were removed from the vehicle by members of the Eagle Matt Lee Fire Company in Ballston Spa. Nobile was pronounced dead at the scene by Saratoga County Coroner John DeMartino; his body was taken to Saratoga Hospital for autopsy.
Sherman was taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center Hospital with massive trauma and internal injuries. He was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning.
Buckley was taken by Ballston Community ambulance to Saratoga Hospital, where he was treated for orthopedic injures and internal injuries, according to police. His condition was not immediately available.
Police said witnesses told them Nobile was driving at a high rate of speed prior to the crash, and police said speed and failure to keep right were the likely causes of the crash. Police did not say whether alcohol was involved or whether any of the injured were wearing seat belts.
And he critically injured a passenger......youll get no sympathy here
