Great forum - Beginner question

Allready installed:

1- 500/1 jl amp & 2 12w3 subs (custom box I made myself - looks good)

1) The amp is rated at 500 watts continous

2) The optiumum range for eash sub is 250 watts.

3) Subs are wired in series = 4 ohm load

Everything lite up nice - sounds good.

I was reading your forums and found many postings on "gain setting" and decided to give it a try.................when I reread the instructions, I started asking myself questions I can not answer.

Serous question - is it ok to assume that I can run 2 subs (rated at 250 continous) on an amp that is rated at 500 continous and not harm the subs? This is an assumption I made.

Please tell me what voltage I need to achieve when setting my gain - there are 2 subs in series

That's a correct assumption...did you read the gain setting tutorial? That tells you the equation to calculate your correct voltage.

Your amp probably puts out more like 600 rms, its underrated, the last one i saw benched pushed 632 rms. Thoe subs should still be fine of that amp
