Thumbs Up!
So I went to pick something up tonight from my cousin who manages at a casual bar/restaurant. When I got to the place, there was a group of about 8-9 college kids (mostly female) complaining about their bill. Apparently, they were charged a gratuity fee (basically a tip) on their bill and didnt want to pay it.
My cousin explained to me their policy, which is stated on the menu, is they add a gratuity fee only when its a table of 6 or more. The bill came out to 140ish and the tip was like only $22 (15%), which is not even $2.50 a person. Everybody was paying separately and the majority of them felt like they did not have to pay the fee. They argued for a while and eventually the police had to be called in to resolve it. At the end, they all ended up paying.
What do you guys think? Who was wrong here? Are mandatory tips bs?
