In 1982, a Grand National equipped with the 4.1 liter V6 cranked out 125 horsepower while those that used the carbureted 3.8 liter turbocharged engine generated 175 horsepower. The output improved considerably in the fuel-injected models, as the 1984 3.8 liter V6 cranked out 200 horses at 4,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 300 foot-pounds of torque at 2,400 rpm.
The addition of a turbo intercooler improved performance even further in 1986. In that year and in 1987, the Grand National cranked out 235 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 330 foot-pounds of torque at 2,400 rpm. This car could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds (I am betting that they mean 6.0)and cross the quarter-mile mark in 14.23 seconds with a speed of 98 mph.
The specially modified turbocharged Grand National GNX engine peaked at 276 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 360 foot-pounds of torque at 3,000 rpm. According to the Muscle Car Club website, the Grand National GNX could sprint from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds and hit 103 mph by the time it passed the quarter-mile in 13.43 seconds.
