Got power? How about 17,000 watts RMS?! (CES video)

From EliteCarAudio.com forums:

Originally posted by hybridamp Technobug has provided his video of the Rockford Fosgate hybrid technology amplifier demonstration that debuted at CES 2006. Basically, it's a 4-channel class a/b full-range amp with an internal 12v DC to 140v DC converter with mass energy stores on board allowing it to effectively operate at 140v DC producing 17,000watts RMS with only 350amp max current draw. The demo has it powering 60 RF subwoofers.

You can check it out here for as long as the bandwidth holds out:

(it's been getting hammered)

Also, if you have not seen Technobug's newest CES 2006 photo coverage, you can check those out at the following location also:

yawn.......as if their amps werent already overly large - do they think everyone has

a giant SUV 2 seater?

That and a Jackhammer would do well in my RSX ......... A?
If you'd actually listen to the video, you'd hear the explanation of why they built that amp. Its not a production model made for consumers.

Thats retarded
lol

who are they targeting this toward, deaf folks on another planet?
No. It's NOT retarded.

Did you pay attention...at all? It's a genius design -- albeit that particular amp was an EXTREME example of what they're trying to achieve.

Class A/B, Class A, tube, etc. audiophile grade amps are notorious for ******* your car's electrical system dry. With the hybrid design highlighted in the video, you would basically retain all the sound quality of the aforementioned amplifiers, but draw very few amps even at maximum current.

If I was an SPL-nut like a lot of the folks on this forum, I would KILL to get my hands on such an amplifier. Why? Because it puts strapped/volt-modded amps to shame.

You wouldn't need a rack of batteries -- perhaps just an upgraded alternator and a deep cycle. With that sort've efficiency, 10 kW in output would be easy to accomplish, it'd be 1 ohm, possibly even .5 ohm stable and not to mention, your bass might actually sound GOOD due to the amplifier topology.

thats amazing I cant wait untill they produce those for normal power levels.

the amps will get smaller when the automotive industry switchs over to a 48v car

Here's a pic of the internals:
