one more thing before i crash.... with respect to the original post, and the comments on trying to use a ps2-style controller for games....
i too, have tried time and time again to get games working effortlessly with a console-style controller on my computer
it's next to impossible, tho.....
i don't know why pc-game coders feel the need to have 30-50-8,000 different buttons to control the game, when console games can get away with using 10-12 or something like that.
not to mention, for some reason, no matter how high-quality your gaming device is, pc gaming controllers have a hard time staying calibrated. most of the time, i'll have to re-calibrate my analog controls between games.
i too dream of a day when computer game designers make pc-games more suitable for console style controllers, so i can sit on my recliner and play some cs, or hl2 while kicking back and relaxing, far from my keyboard and mouse.
untill that day, mame, or other console emulators are the way to go for console-controllers.
last year, my and my roomates hooked up my computer to the tv in the livingroom and were playing 4-player arcade games on mame with 4 ps2 controllers hooked up to the comp with those $5 radio shack ps2-usb adapters.
probably the most fun i've had playing video games in a long long long time....
4 player turtles, simpons, xmen, alien vs. predator, battletoads...... awesome times
