I've never been asked for my id when using a signature pad.

some places do some place dont. if u dont have a signature on the back of ur card they SHOULD ask for it but i dont think they care

The back of my card says SEE ID in case it ever does get stolen, there is a better chance of it not getting used, but still most of the time they never ask for my ID, which kinda pisses me off.

Any place that does not ask for ID, is breaking the law, and can/will be held accountable for any loses that occur due to a stolen card. Ask me how I know.
Someone stole my new checkbook right out of my mailbox once, when the bank mailed them to me. bastard wrote almost 40 checks around town before they caught him... not ONE single business had checked his ID. And when my bank stopped payment, virtually all of those businesses came to ME demanding that I pay the loss. lol? I told them all to get fucked.

I had just moved to California. Naturally you open a checking account right? Well 3 weeks after I opened my account, i called the bank and told the lady "I ordered new checks 3 weeks ago and they havent come yet, I need to start paying bills, where are they?" and her reply was "huh, that's weird, because you've been writing checks for 1-1/2 weeks now". I was like.... ah ****.
The bank reversed payment on all the checks immediately, didn't lose a penny. But I did have to fight with the local businesses who broke the law by not checking ID's, to keep them from ruining MY credit over it all. It took a couple years to straighten out.

Oh an 3 weeks ago, walking home from the g/f's house at 2am (she lives down the street from me) I caught two guys tossing my mailbox again. Seems its a regular business for criminals, go around chcking mailboxes at the end of the month looking for checks and pre-approved credit cards. Imagine if one of these guys got ahold of one of those pre-approved credit cards that companies randomly send us in the mail... the thief could activate the card and start ruining your credit with it, and you dont even know the company ever sent it to you in the first place.

Always get your mail out of your mailbox every single day.

I live in a housing development in the county. Our mailboxes are the old style box on a pole sitting out by the street. Im not allowed to put a lock on my mailbox, because the mail person would be responsible for having a key then, and they aren't willing to do that for individuals. My old house in Florida was in a gated community, we had locking boxes all together at the gate. No such luck here.
And on a side story... my mail lady is so lousy, I get mail from the people one block over at least 3 times a week. Makes a person wonder how often they get some of my mail, doesn't it? Netflix is rather unhappy with me, because they think Im stealing movies by not returning them, when the truth is they seem to be getting delivered to the wrong house. The guy a block over use to call me and let me know he got my movies... but he seems to have grown tired of making thoose phone calls and just keeps them anymore. I cant really blame him. Ive called the post office about the poor delivery service, guess how far I got with that approach?

Now that I look at it like this, my mail box is the source of alot of my stress. heh

How would they be able to open it to check for out-going mail? Im not positive, but I dont think those are allowed here either. Thanks for the idea though.

i believe there is a extra tray or something for the outgoing....which imcoming is more important u kno... ur not gonna be sending out checkbooks...
