God did not create the universe

Very true. However, I meant more specifically 'outer space'. Gravity has a presence, and we don't know WTF is going on with it.

Our very limited understanding of gravity only works on the surface of the Earth.
our understanding of gravity works everywhere but black holes.. show me where it doesn't?

I have to agree with RAM on this one. I haven't seen any evidence to suggest gravity isn't a constant law throughout the universe (besides black holes).
it is.. black holes are beyond our grasp for now. hell they probably hold the keys to all the mysteries

It only works to the exact science in which we applied to it.
That better for ya bro?
thats like saying the letter A is only the Letter A because we made it that.. and that it could have been O.. it still would be the same..

Jesus christ, this is some low level common knowledge here bro. Define the true and exact properties of gravity for me. I need to know what these things are. Because if we have that figured out, we'll know how to get off the planet without the use of rockets.
And no, not you personally persay. You're having way to much fun today to even be wasting time on this subject in my opinion.
Fully understanding gravity does not mean we can all the sudden fucking float.. You don't need ROCKETS to get off the earth. its just the best form of propulsion we have so far..

It varies based on a lot of factors, and obviously gravity is not the same everywhere. But since we can obtain practically all the info needed, we can predict exactly what will happen, how fast it will happen, etc. How do you think we can slingshot space shuttles around planets with pinpoint accuracy? Luck?
The AMOUNT of gravity isn't the same everywhere but its properties are.. except in a black hole

No, rocket propulsion allows us to do that. If we understood it perfectly, we could do without said assistance.
I'm not debating with you that we don't know wtf it is. I'm say we don't know exactly how it works.
Like I said before fully understanding something does not mean we can eliminate it.. you fully understand if you use enough strength and the proper angle you can put a basket ball in a hoop doesn't mean you can do it with your mind now.. and besides black holes we know EXACTLY how gravity works.. what instance is there a question on how gravity works.

I dont think the idea of how gravity works is a mystery. The atomic model shows us the attraction of mass is based upon polarity differences that arise from the nucleus/proton interaction.
Gravity is based on mass alone. For example an electron (with no nucleus or protons) has mass and is affected by gravity. Likewise, a photon of light also has mass and is affected by gravity. I think you might be trying to point towards string, or M theory, which can be used to explain subatomic interactions as well as gravity.

obviously gravity is not the same everywhere.
Several said something like this in their posts... the fact is that in our universe there are three constants.. Plank's constant, the gravitational constant, and the speed of light... gravity is a constant, gravitational force is based on mass and distance..

What Hawking is trying to explain to everyone is that if string theory can accurately account for gravity, then the existence of matter, the universe, (and life itself?), was inevitable...

Ya'll are trying to hard. This isnt about trying to prove SM wrong. I can list plenty that we do know about gravity, but it is a fact - gravity remains one of the most mysterious things in the universe. Everyone knows gravity exist and yes it is relative to mass but no one completely understands gravity on a quantum level.
