Gm Side Mount Question

my question is will I be able to put on top mount battery terminals for my system cable and my big 3 upgrade and leave the side mount the way it is ? or do i have to use the side mount only

I figured the top/side post were connected physically within the battery anyway, so I don't think it would matter.

you can use both. thats is what i did with my camaro at one point, i justed the top for the BIG 3
