GM 2.2 L4 "ecotech"

A word of warning...If you have a GM car with a 2.2L L4 DOHC,otherwise known as an "ecotech",the timing chain guides are prone to wearing out quickly.Wifes went out @ 50000m,2 days after the warrenty went out(What a cowinkydink:eyebrow: Our mech said he just did 3 of these with about the same milage.The standard 2.2 OHV is ok.Gonna cost $1800 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif to fix this little crapper.I'm not saying its junk,just passing on some info so maybe others will not be so unlucky.

wow... that's probably more than what the engine costs...

Nah we checked into getting the ohv installed from grooms...about 3000 for the engine...But this puppy's going on the lot...Wife wants a PT cruiser now...Just something else for me to tinker with.

$1800??? that is highway robbery. that is more than a valve job, re-ring, head gasket, and tune-up combined. find a new mechanic.

i have always heard good things about the 2.2L the 2.4L is junk, along with the 1990-1997 3.4L DOHC V6, that motor is totally junk to!!

i have always heard good things about the 2.2L the 2.4L is junk, along with the 1990-1997 3.4L DOHC V6, that motor is totally junk to!!

I had both of them. 2.2 pretty much stayed stock and ran good! Only put about 75,000 miles on it though. Had a 1999z24 with the 2.4 in it and ran awesome before I started to mod it. Put NOS on it too and did ok for about 6 months till I started to race more, then the heads warped and well.......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif Had over 100k on it though.

You tried to mod a J-Body? And you should have only 'warped' one head seeing as it's an L4.

really thats nothing new to hear, ive changed a few of these already and im sure more will come..... one thing i noticed is the saabs have the same block and head, i dunno about internals but im sure those wont last all that long either..... these ecocraps, and the ford 2.0s ive changed ao many its not even funny anymore...... hell most of the cars with the 3.1s im down to about 4 hours to pull and drop one and have it run....

another thing , this isnt the first motor that eats guides, must have forgot the 2.3/2.4's ...... every motor has its issue..... or weakness per say.......

my buddys got a j-body. 89 i think, flawless no body rust. good cars if you can keep em up.
