glue

is there anywhere you can rent long clamps
My only guess would be to ask on Craigslist, if there are any local woodworkers around who would be willing.

But clamp adapters for pipes are cheap, pick up some threaded iron pipe and you've got yourself a custom set of clamps you can make however long you want...

thats a cool ideal

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I let wood glue cure overnight before removing clamps. I've found it takes time to really get to full strength...
No your not I do the same. But it helps with the speed of the build if your not having to wait for the clamps to be there all day. =)

HarborFrieght.com carrys it at a low cost and they carry titebond 3 which is stronger than 2.

i heard titebond 3 sucks. then again the guy that told me that is a custom cabinet/furniture maker. not like he would know more than a kid on a car audio forum.

In my experiences Liquid Nails > TiteBond. I also hate how runny TiteBond is. Now Gorilla Glue is good but I don't like working with that stuff either so it's Liquid Nails for me all the way when building boxes.

A poll is useless. Just like this site you'll get a bunch of people voting for one thing just because it's what they know from hearsay even though they don't actually know anything about it. I bet most of the people in this thread that say TiteBond is better haven't actually used anything else. You'd get better results from a coin toss.

Gorilla Glue is not ideal. It expands as it dries which isn't great for a flush joint.. Liquid Nails is NOT as strong as Titebond. I tried TB 1,2, and 3 and found 2 to be the easiest to work with and has the best results.

titebond 3 om mdf 2 on plywood. I like screws if I have to take clamps off early or brads only if i can overnight them. Liquid nails under drywall going on the ceiling or under paneling on the wall but not on speaker boxes. Liquid nails has no real place in a joint on a speaker box.

edit I always use screw with plywood

I've built a ton of enclosures the past 3-4 years and have also broken apart several to see how the glue joints held up. Gorilla glue and liquid nails did NOT hold up at all and I'll NEVER use them again.

TBII or Elmer's Pro is all I use as they make a strong bond. I've seen a few boxes repeatedly kicked to make them fit into the trunk and they held up fine.
