I started three weeks ago buying amps, subs, head units, eq's, crossover, mids, etc.... A few moments ago the McIntosh finally came in and I am finally ready to get started today //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Wish me luck, this is going to take a while.

Giggity, giggity, giggity.................

One question..... If anyone knows. This is the first J-spec radio I have owned. There is an attached small metal box with an antenna connection. I take it this is the frequency converter. So, how does that work? I have to assume the frequency to be higher than what is displayed?

That's gonna sound pretty nice I'd wager //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

No idea on the converter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Tape Deck NICE! Give me your address and I will mail you my JJ-FAD cassette.

They are a little more "old school" than your gear but their color scheme will match your art series amps.

**** now i'm sad:(. i used to own a ton of .2 series art gear. i ended up owning all of them but the 606.2 b/c I couldn't find a white one with plugs. I'm curious as well what speakers you are going to use?

I don't recall saying it didn't. I just thought it was cool he had such a nice old school headunit with a tape player.
Just wasn't sure if you were aware //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Your post sounded sarcastic in nature.

im not doubting the mcintosh's performance, but why does it look so retro? is it old school? some amps i've seen from mcintosh seem pretty retro too with the analog gauges and stuff. anyway, what's the deal with mcintosh.. why is there stuff so expensive yet look so simple? near-perfect sound quality?

Because looks do not equal price //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yes, all of McIntosh's equipment are simplistic in styling.

near-perfect sound quality?
Extreme attention to detail in the build quality and design, high quality parts used, extreme reliability in their products, excellent customer support, etc.

It is an old unit but McIntosh always uses an understated and classy, if you will, design theme. The new units look similar to their older stuff. Sort of how Porsches have always looked the same over the years.. evolution not revolution as the designs progress.

They cater to a high(er) end crowd than most and they make no-nonsense equipment. No flashing lights and screen savers. They are all about the sound and less about gimmicks and add-ons.

Here is a link to their most recent in-dash cd player / control piece.

It is an old unit
how "old" do suggest "old" is exactly amigo? 3 yrs is not "old" imo. It is a double din 406, the head unit you linked. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
