Hey...I plan on getting out of here, down to North Carolina, ASAP.

Edit: If they do buy them out, it'll still be General Motors. It will be the same as it is is now - GM owns Chevrolet and all those other companies, but the companies are still allowed to keep their own identity.

I was listening to NPR news this morning, and analysts expect 25,000 layoffs and over 1000 dealerships closed. Of course, they want the goverment to pay for the severence packages for those employees - kinda like the goverment backed billion dollar financial market bailout.

Considering they don't have to white collar workers a damn thing....and the few "in-between" workers were sold off to form Visteon (sp?) and once rehired, where under a plan that only paid one month's severance.

It still amazes me how people expect severance packages, social security, etc.

I guess? The US automakers really did get their collective ***** kicked by the japs, so this consolidation is probably for the better if they want to stay in some sort of business.
