Fuses... important

Alright I'm gonna be installing my Hifonics XX colossus II next weekend. Currently I have a 250 amp fuse right after my yellow top under my hood. I will have several Kinetik HC800s in the rear and dual 200 amp fuse the last battery to the amp (so 400 amps total between the amp and battery). My question is, should I just ditch the 250 amp fuse after my hood battery, or will it do anything up front. Another question, I'm going to be getting a huge alternator and was wondering if I were to fuse it goin to the battery, how big should i go? Most likely, it will be in the ballpark of 165-170amps idle and 220-240amp max. Thanks.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Duh, keep it.

It's there to protect your wire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif... so it doesn't catchfire if it gets cut and a short occurs...

It can be a big fuse, tho, if you're getting a 240A alt, get a 240A fuse, it needs to be bigger than all your amp fuses added up,tho, cause an 80A draw at the other end of the wire might be a 100A draw at the battery, or more.

Do i really need 400+ amps of fuses after the alt? Anybody else?
No, a majority of your current will be coming from the rear batts anyways...

I had a pair of MA HK4000d's doing burps... no fuses in the rear... they peaked a 400A Clamp meter... at the time I had a 250amp fuse under the hood between the front batt and the back batt... and it didn't blow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif...

80A at one end is 80A at the other. Current flowing in one end comes out the other. Period. Your amps don't draw their fuse rating. If they did, the fuses would blow after a while.

Do you have another fuse near the rear battery on the cable going to the front battery. Since you have a battery on both ends of the cable as a source of current in the event of a short, you must fuse both current sources. As long as you are careful in the routing of the alt cable, there is no reason to fuse it, but if you want to, fuse to the size of the alt.

Ok this is what I'll do and tell me if this is ok....

Starting with the alternator (all positive wire of course)

Alt>150 amp fuse>YellowTop>250 amp fuse>150 amp fuse>2-3kinetik HC800s>400 amp fuse total>hifonics XX colossus II.

I have a couple 150 amp fuses and a kajillion 0 awg fuse holders.
