In head unit(it wouldnt let me post in HU thread). Kenwood Z828 came stock. Been installed for 3 yr. an with subs an amp for 1 yr. Never had problems until now, never showed any signs, all of a sudden it just shut off. I tried 7.5A an recommend 10A an they keep blowing???

got something shorted/grounded, maybe a wire came loose? see if it blows with nothing but the power/acc/ground hooked up...no speakers, or remote....

Alright I unplugged RCAs an REM wire. It(fuse behind deck) is still popping?? Does it mean anything that I hear crackling noise just out of one speaker? It is only coming from pass. side door(factory speaker)???

If I can check this with DMM what do I set it to?

the unit would say PROTECT on it if that where the case....it's more then likely bad....due to dust dirt ect...
I've never seen an eXcelon HU say "Protect" on the display for ANY reason....you sure about this?

Continually blowing fuses, to me, is going to be indicative of a wire shorted to ground somewhere. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

not sure about the exeleron..... or whatever... i know ur regular kenwood. if at any point in time ( other then ground or batt being shorted or disconnected) the speaker wire's are grounded it will say protect on it...

The Z828 was either the top model or the next to top model the year it was new. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

One of the earlier eXcelon examples and as I recall was a durn nice HU when it originally came out.

.mp3 playback (I think?), animations on the display, spectrum analyzer....things that are commonplace nowadays but back then were pretty much a rarity.

When did they incorporate that function?

The last non-eXcelon HU I bought is a several years-old cassette receiver and it doesn't do that...

Thanks for the info, then!

man i couldent tell you when they did???

the company i work for carry's pioneer, jvc, kenwood, panasonic, clarion..... as far as decks.... ( im a M.E.C.E.P. installer w/ 5 1/2 yrs experence.) have seen allot of kenwoods come back saying protect on them....and after trouble shooting them they are either. bad, or a speaker shorted. ( due to customers pathetic job of self installation)

also seen ALLOT of the new clarions with the multi color disp. come back beacuse the display gose out.......

Yeah it was top of the line when came out and has the display panel and what not like that one guy just stated. But still fuses are blowing without REM an RCAs, this came stock from factory. Can a DMM be useful in this, if so what should I set everything to??
