Does the face flip around and look like there is no deck in there when you turn the car off? Do you have to push a button to get it to do that, and does it flip on automatically when you turn the car on? My friend has one like that and it does that stuff, was wondering if yours does too? ummm I'm pretty sure it doesn't flip backwards to hide the face.

Sampson, the faceplate mechanism you're asking about was called D-Mask. (the faceplate rotated 180 degrees leaving a blank backplate the only thing visible) The manual version was called D-Mask and the motorized version, which sadly proved very problematic for my dear Kenwood, was called D-Mask+.

The eXcelon KDC-X679 doesn't have that. It has a faceplate mechanism Kenwood calls "Auto-Slide." When it is off the faceplate is fixed flush against the unit. When in use the faceplate can be left flush against the chassis or put in one of three separate viewing angles with the bottom edge of the face coming increasingly farther away from the deck. It rotates 90 degrees to a flat position to insert/remove discs.
