Once again got shafted by window shoppers.

For those interested here is the email I received about the 9887:

Thank you for contacting United Radio. We have a repair flat rate of $85 plus shipping and tax for this model. The flat rate covers parts and labor for one year; if the repair did not qualify for the flat rate (i.e. a pc board or other highly expensive component needed replacement) we would provide a free estimate. Our turn-around time is generally 7 – 10 business days if we have the parts in stock. If we have to order the parts, it does delay the process.

I know some were wondering how easy a transport 9887 would be to fix. I don't know the answer to that, but I took the top cover off so that folks could take a look. As I understand, the part can be had pretty reasonably.

I think this deck may be perfect for someone with an ipod. Buy the cable and you have a fully configurable deck for a third of retail.

Excellent idea. In fact, I used an Alpine changer (Ai-net) with the deck in lieu of its transport. Worked really well and the access time was more than manageable.
