FS: 2 400gb hard drives

I mean, with the data still on them...
nG
ah i get ya

since they were used in raid0 the data is spanned across the drives so you need to run them in raid0 to keep the data intact

i think a pci raid card only costs about $15 though

these are the 7200.10 16mb cache perpendicular drives and they are IDE/PATA

they both have warranty until Oct 2011

if you want to check here is the info:

Model: ST3400632A

S/N: 5QH04919

Sorry again noob question, what are advantages to IDE/PATA over SATA and disadvantages also. Assuming both would be compatable with my dell dimension 8400. Sorry im really interested but I have no clue the difference, I know about cars not computers.

IDE/PATA is an older interface than SATA the difference being different transfer rates. SATA is newer technology and has up to a 3.0 gb/s transfer rate. I don't remember the transfer rate of IDE/PATA but its significantly less. Based on This Review of a dell dimension 8400 your computer is capable of handling another RAID configuration.

hope that helps

LOL cant even begin to compute how long it took me to back up my movie collection on these.
I started with the ISO format thinking I would never run out of space, but I did, Then I started converting to AVI and that took about 1.5 hours per movie on my dual core pc.

Lets just say it took a long time, but it is worth it not to have to get up, look for a particular movie and put it in the dvd player. Now I just click a few buttons on my modded xbox and the movie streams right to my tv:)
I just had to increase my storage capacity recently too. Just put 4 320GB drive in Raid 5. I need redudancy for piece of mind. it only totals out to 900GB after the parity takes up its share. Good enough for now, but I am looking to get another RAID 5 going here soon in the server.

Enough space today is never enough tommorrow:(

When I started AVI resolution was plenty for my 40" Mitsu tv and each movie took up 700-1400mbs of space. Then I switched from an analog TV to a HDTV and thats when I started replacing the AVI files with the higer res DVD ISO files which take up about 4-5gb of space.

I am now switching over to HD-DVD and Blueray and the x264 versions take up 5-10gb depending on if they are 720p or 1080p, DD5.1 or DTS.

Right now I have way to many random size drives, 2 500gb, 2 400gb, 1 320gb, 1 250gb, 1 160gb, 1 74gb Raptor

I am trying to switch to 4 identical 750gb drives in my external case and 1 150gb Raptor in my pc, but funds are limted on that right now.

I just watched 300 in 720p with DTS sound and it was amazing!
