frustrating amp... goes into protect and the light dims..

hey guys im running an hifonics atlas 12 by a crunch 1000.1 amp @ 1 ohm, my problem is after running for about 20 - 30 minutes it will go into protect, and the weird thing is when the sub hits the green power light gets a little red as if it's almost going to go into protect, but it doesn't for a while, the amp is rated 1 ohm stable, 1000rms, and the sub is 900 rms rated so everything should be fine, im running 8 ga. power and ground wire, could this be the problem? thanks !

8 guage seems small. im running 2 guage to my amp. But i dunno for sure.

The LED transitioning from "green" to "red" is most likely telling you that you are clipping the amp.

8 gauge wire for a 1000W amp, man you better get some 4 gauge to that thing it is struggling for juice and probably getting hot fast. Make sure you have a good 4 gauge ground wire and good grounding point.

ya im deff. going to upgrade to either kicker awg 4 or kollosus 4, should that be good ?

i dont think it's clipping b/c it a pretty faint red glow when the sub hits, and it happens no matter what, any type of music, every time, cd, radio, whenever. but- if it was clipping how would i fix that ?

4 gauge would definitely work, but if you're going to the trouble to re-wire, you should do 1/0 instead, and give yourself room to upgrade later. It would really **** if you wanted to add another amp later, and found out 4-gauge was too small for the two of them, and have to run more wire yet again!
