Friend would like DD DVD unit, needing some suggestions please.

I'm searching for some advice here. He said he's willing to spend $600, but will do more if the unit is really good for the price (probably $700). He's not seriously into audio, I think he just wants DVD playback for long trips, and possibly navi expansion later. So, crossovers, EQ's, etc aren't a necessity, though most come with a basic EQ'ing system anyway. I don't have experience with any Kenwood, Eclipse, or Clarion decks, and I know all of those companies make DD units. Any advice here, or where to look? Please provide links if you can. Thanks in advance for the help.

a refurbished kenwood ddx-8017, thats what i have

5v out, advance crossover, time alignment, etc....
