Well, 2 weeks ago a friend OD'd. Then, last Friday another friend got into a car wreck and doctors are saying he'll never walk again. He was following traffic coming back from black friday shopping. An 18-wheeler in front of him ran over a tire that was laying on the interstate, so my friend swerved to avoid it. Wound up going across the median and hit oncoming traffic. There were 2 cars that slammed into him. One of the drivers was DOA, luckily the other driver & his 18 month old daughter are alright. My friend has a punctured lung, lacerated spleen, bruised brain, and completely crushed lower vertebrae. Docs say he'll likely never walk again. He's in a coma right now, but he's actually able to move his fingers. They can't take him into MRI because he has tubes in his heart and lung. This happened on the i-565 in Alabama. Law of conservation of momentum: his speed + others' speed=total speed of impact. 70mph + 70mph=140mph. He essentially was going 140mph and came to a complete stop. I'm honestly freaked out by this. I've lost one friend, and another won't be able to walk. We're all hoping that the doctors are wrong.

I appreciate the kind words. Sometimes I don't like posting this stuff because it seems like I expect people to feel sorry for me. I hate people like that. I'm just posting because things like this make me appreciate what I've got in my life, and maybe seeing this will cause some people to consider their fortunes as well. His name is Wes, by the way. If you're the praying kind, please keep him in your prayers.

wow. i hope you friend ends up allright.
lots of times, the doctors end up being wrong
Likewise on both ^

Best of luck to him & the family.

I dont see a crushed vertebrae causing him to be paralyzed, so long as the spinal core itself is intact he should be alright. Ofrouse alright is going to take a long time, not to mention he'll be a bit shorter (depends on what they do during surgery) Hopefully the main spinal cord itself isnt damaged.

As for you, so long as your not forcing yourself into depression stop worrying about it. Sometimes you just need an outlet, doesnt matter how you find it. Better to post about it on a forum rather then drinking yourself stupid like some ppl do when faced with problems in life.

Be thankful for what you've got & learn from others mistakes. Should you ever see a tire on the road & cant really avoid it, who cares just hit it. The car can be repaired. Going through what your friend is going through isnt worth any price.

Dont get me wrong, not trying to take a stab at his actions. It was a mistake.

No offense taken. I know I probably would've swerved too, it's just an impulse.

I'm not depressed over it as in *******. I'm deeply saddened by it and can't believe this happened. We haven't hung out in a while, but he and another friend are (were) about to start back riding (bmx) and I've been scraping parts together for them. It's crazy that this stuff happens. All my friends' that have passed away or have had serious injuries have one ironic coincidence: I recently started hanging out with them again right before the accident. A friend in 10th grade passed away in a car wreck. He and I had spent a day in ISS together (frayed pants at my school gets you in trouble) and hadn't really talked in a year before that. After ISS, we started hanging out, then the next weekend he died. I ran into my other friend who od'd last weekend a couple times recently and talked for a while about the old days. Then this friend gets ready to start back riding bikes and he gets into a wreck and is paralyzed. WTF is the man upstairs telling me? I guess he sends things my way so I can make my peace with the person before its too late?...(don't start religious debate, this isn't the place)

i've got a friend that had to be helicoptered to a hospital after a car accident (SRT-4 @ 120 miles an hour + telephone pole & brick wall = bad combination)... coma for a couple weeks... complete reconstruction of the left side of her face (she actually likes that side of her face better now lol)...

doctors told her she'd never walk again... in her words: "proved those f#ckers wrong" lol

your friend has made it this far... he can make it the rest of the way.
