Free Vista from M$

There's two reasons why I won't get Vista. Right now, with the release of SP1, it has gotten better from my understanding. I'll be waiting for SP2 to come out before I get Vista, until then I'll stick with XP SP3.
Reason why is software compatibility. Some of the software I use I think are not Vista compatible, I'd have to verify.

Another reason is RAM. I have 4 gigs of ram and I do have a gaming machine, well, I will in a few hours after I get it built. Down the line I plan to upgrade to 8 gigs, but for now, 4 is sufficient. Crysis needs 1 GB with XP and 2 GB with Vista. I know I won't see the full 4 gigs with XP, but with Vista it does require more ram.

I don't really have a use or advantage right now really, but I wouldn't mind using Vista. It is a bunch more secure than XP, that's for sure. I might load Vista onto another HDD that I have and run it to compare the difference with XP. I'll probably even load a fresh copy of XP to make it a more reliable and valid comparison. I just don't know if I should go with 64 bit since I have to verify some of my compatibilities.
If you plan to use more than 3gb of RAM you have to get a 64bit OS.

Yeah I know, but I just dont know if all my software is 64 bit compatible. Any way I can find out whether or not they are without going to each manufacturer's webpage?
go to the websites. might be different drivers for 64 bit as well. what cpu you running?

You can use 32 bit software on a 64bit OS. In fact most software I use is for 32bit. You'll have 2 program file folders. One named Program Files for the 64bit and the other named Program Files (x86) for the 32bit. What software are you trying to use?

There's a program that I use to backup my xbox 360 games. Ever since one of my games got messed up from the unit getting nudged and a $60 game going to waste, I've been creating backups for "just in case" occurences.

I can't quite think of anything else. I did check a few other program I was running and they do work with 64bit so I think I should be fine.

Using an Intel Core 2 Duo E6800. Got it free, along with the Asus P5B Deluxe mobo from my cousin's husband and figured I can throw together some parts and get a pretty good computer for under $500.

I bought PC Power & Cooling 750w PSU, eVGA 9800 GT, 4 GB Corsair PC 6400, and as for the HDD's I have several I'll be using, 2.5 TB in total. Will be going in an Antec Twelve Hundred case.
