Free optima red top; worth it?

Hey, apparently the search button doesn't work. Searched "red top" and nothing came back. I got a core return of a red top at my work. Put it in the charger and it seems to be fine. I can just take the battery and find another core to replace it so I can basically take it for free. I was hoping to get a yellow top for my system but is this worth holding me over until I can dish out the cash for a new yellow? It will probably only be powering the stock system + an aq 1200d and fi q. I'm guessing it would be fine but figured I would toss out the questions because I'm not sure if it has the deep cycling like the yellow, or if it will even need it. Mostly posting for you post ****** out there to grow da e-peen... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

yes go ahead and put it on a trickle charger @ the lowest amp setting and let it charge... if you have access to a battery load tester I highly suggest you use that. I have seen alot of batteries test voltage fine but under a load they fail miserably... hope you are staying warm in the blizzard we are getting.

Haha, thanks. Ive been at work since 7 so I'm just sitting here pretty much. It actually stopped charging said it was fully charged but it was only at 660cca's instead of 800. I'm not sure if my tester puts a load on it or not I'll have to check. I did it on a full slow charge. I just threw it on again to see what happens this time. It did bring it up from 200 though so that's kinda good lol. We'll see. Hope you're doing fine in this snow as well, pretty brutal.

throw it in your car and if it starts your car fine and let it idle for a bit @ stock ampreage output and see again.

Right now stock everything, don't have the system in. I wasn't sure if using the used dirty abused battery was a good idea, and wasn't sure if buying a brand new yellow top would be wiser. I'd rather save the money and use the red top so I guess it should be fine then as long as it charges. I have it out back on the trickle charger to see how that does. It still wasn't over 700 after the quick charge either. :/

well, some batteries may take a full night @ ~2.0 amps (my lowest setting on my charger) to get to float... a yellow top on my load tester pegged right around 800ca when I flipped the switch.

free **** is worth it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
why was it turned in as a core if it's not bad tho?
Because people think they are mechanics and know everything. He is going to be pissed when that one gets drained and figures out it's not the battery lol.

Alright, I'll let it sit on the one out back. I'll test it before I leave and again tomorrow.

did you load test it? i've had batteries show good volts, and not start a car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
