free air

i got 2 12' type r's for christmas but i dont have my car set up to put them in. so i was thinkin about runnin them free air just for the heck of it. how do i do that?

free airing your subwoofer will destroy your woofers almost instantly unless its an FI woofer. sorry man cant be done

Give them 2kw of power, free air them at 10hz, and make a vid. Should rattle the hell out of your car ....

or subs till they blow, whichever comes first

usually only speakers with a qts under .35 are suitable for free air applications. the speakers you own do not fall under that category.

also, free air entails that the rear of the speaker is entirely closed off from the front of the speaker, meaning that with a normal installation, the trunk of the vehicle is sealed from the cabin, and a baffle is placed across the rear seat area and the speakers are installed that way. for example, my previous install;

it is a lot of work, and unless you want to do more work than you would buy building\buying a regular box, and getting below optimal results and possibly blown speakers, i do no suggest it.

The only thing you will hear from a driver in free air is mechanical noise.
