Four 8"s for extremely tight bass?

Amazing how a new hobby consumes you?

I've had my *** set up for a bit now and I love it. The sq is amazing and the output is more than enough for me, getting 1600rms @ 25 volume, no effects except a custom eq. It also blends in perfectly with the (for now) stock fronts with no pull towards the rear. When I first set it in, fell in love with the fat bass. Now, as I'm listening to the music more and more, I realize it's lacking the tightness I sooooo require. I should have figured with a driver this big.

Let me just say, I'm a metalhead, with the exception on a little ska/clasical on the side and ocationally funk. During the almost constant blazing double-bass, the bass sounds almost like a constant note with a little extra punch on the actual notes. It's not just the songs I'm using, either. I put in many a song, actual CD and mp3's. I just can't get that double bass clear.

Now, if I were to install four eights, how much clearer would it be? I was thinking the ID8v.3's. Also, I'm looking at amps to power that a/b. I was concidering the 800.2? Each sub should be able to take 200rms, I mean they're rated for 175 right?

Oh, setup would be sealed, lpf ~50hz in .55^3 before disp, each with deadening on the inside rear of the box (should take it to ~.5^3). Also, what would a common chamber change; overall sq?

Any rec's? Thanks.

Good to hear. Bodom is concerning me the most right now. Gawd I love Cowards Dead End. Changing to backfire should help even out the loss of output too, I would think. Right now she's upfiring at my trunk lid. I wanted 'er below the read deck but the box was too big.

have you ever seen children of bodom live???

its like watching and hour of some guy who likes

to fling his hair around and ******** on his guitar

while some other band members back him up...

god i hated it...

fortunatly hypocracy and dimmu borgir made up for it...

peace though... my brother is a big C.O.B. fan... i just

dont like them...

Unless you know the concerts going to be roudy ahead of time, they usually are a letdown. That's why I love Unearth and Killswitch so much: each concert totally rocks me.

IMO the problem likely lies more with the lack of good midbass rather than the sub. Subbass isn't really "tight", it's slow and muddy by nature (pretty hard to make a 30-40hz tone "tight"). Typically when people say they lack tightness, the problem lies with the midbass rather than the sub.

Can you elaborate a little more on this subject? And what do you suggest to remedy it? I'm in the exact situation as they're in....

Basically what he's saying is the sub will still be fat no matter what. The problem lies with the midsized woofers in the front. You can't cross a sub off at 55hz and then expect the stock fronts to play down to 50ghz with decent output or tonality or clairity so you're going to have to deal until warm weather comes around and you can finish your kicks.

edit: oh shit, that's just me

my buddy is got 6 idq8's sealed in a 2004 f-150-that sub set-up will beat you to death!!! the double kick drum sounds like a marching snare sounding off-when slayer is in control of the hu!!!!!!!!

So then, what's the difference in transient response between an L7 in a large sealed enclosure with a low Qts vs. a e15a.22 in a small sealed with an extremely high Qts?

Subbass most definitely can have definition and a characteristic of its own //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I never said they can't have their own "characteristics" or definition.....but being "tight" and "punchy" in true subbass isn't going to happen. That "tightness" and "punchyness" is in the upper bass/lower midbass region (which, unfortunately, most people have their subs playing), not subbass. People might interpret it as being subbass....but it's not. That's why the midbass speakers typically play such a large roll in how "punchy" and "tight" a system sounds.

Then why do we use smaller speakers for mid-range and even smaller speakers for tweeters?

My "tweeters" are about 4.5" in diameter, 17" wide and 12" long //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Anyways....look into pro and home audio; they have 12" midbasses and 8"-10" pure midranges. And there are 4" "wide band" speakers that will extend pretty well up to around 16khz. Likewise, there are 2" drivers that, when used in multiples, will extend pretty well all the way down to 200hz. The main point jack was trying to get across was that a smaller diameter subwoofer isn't "quicker" than a larger sub.

If you really want to know what causes transient response differences, Adire has a great tech article on it: http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/TechPapers/WooferSpeed.pdf
