speed doesnt mean greatness,actually it doesnt impress me much at all.
as a drummer myself,whats impressive is accuracy,consistancy and
most of all wicked hard beats. many of the heavy metal/speedmetal drummer
sound repetitive and jerky including that carey and adler guy whos style
is boring to me personally sure the guys fast but not advanced in skill,those beats they play are beats are not that difficult at all.
Take away the double bass drum,give him a 4 pc set with a single bass drum and watch him flounder into just average....
U wanna hear some impressive stuff,listen to some jazz guys,Bill Bruford of Yes,Keith Moon (my fav),Bonham, even simple players like Charlie Watts whom can prolly keep time better than any player in the world are impressive.
70 progressive rock bands were very experimental and sophisticated,ELP,Rush,Genesis,Yes, to name a few would play alot high skill level stuff than those speed mongers.
