I will be modifying my Tahoe. Going Turbo on the stock 350 before I do the complete pro-street build. Probably stock cast internals while I'm broke. If I can get some speed-pro forged pistons to fit then I will go with them, since they are only $30/pop with wrist pins included. All depends on how much I have to save for tuition and how much this job at the ford dealership is paying out. Goal is no more than 400 on the ground on a single. Considering Holset hx35w or T6x. I'm only sizing right now and planning, but if yall want to see the pics of plans I have thus far, let me know and I will post them up.

Sorry if it seems I am having a convo with myself, this was pasted from another site I visit.

I started this over at turbomustangs.com, so some of it is a copy/paste. I'll update it when I have something worth saying.
JUST starting, but I figured I would let yall see what I was doing. Also, from what i have seen, not many projects like this has been done before, so I figured I would give those few interested a place to look. This is an extreme budget set-up and will take some time, so yall bear with me.

*1998 Chevy Tahoe with 5.7L Vortec 5700

*Factory stock besides exhaust, rims/wheels and a stereo.

Just in the planning (mental masturbating as some say) stage right now. I was considering a T04E-60 but decided it would be too small as a single. This is what the foam is modeled after though. As you can see, even with a larger turbo, size will probably not be an issue. Especially once I move the battery to the rear.

^With some gentle messaging :p(sp?) of the lines in the compartment, I think I will be able to come up with at least 4-5^3ft of working space.

Please excuse my rudamentary design criteria, I lack the petty cash($10,000) to pick up a copy of AutoDesk Inventor or something of the like for designing. I'll make some official designs when I return to school after spring break. The exhuast is already routed to the pas side, so I think I will do as I saw somweone esle do. Keep the drivers side manifold the way it is and just cut off the exhaust and fab up a pipe that will connect to the custom ps manifold. I will be doing some research into airflow charicteristics, as I do not want to choke the turbo with a shitty exhaust mani design.

Just looking over it and wanted to say sorry for the poor image quality. Twas a cold, late night and I was all alone. Updates along with questions and plans will come soon. Any and all comments are very welcome.

Thanks for looking!

And yes, that TT427 would be awesome, but I think I could do just as good with 1/10 the money. May not have all the goodies, but the power would be there.

Save ya moeny and just build it once, and a turbo doesnt sound like all that great of an idea on a stock motor, pending on boost I guess, but the cast crank anit gonna last long if u are bilding a nice powerful motor

It's easy for some to say build it once. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Boost would be no more than 11PSI with forged pistons. If I run the stockers then boost will be lower, around 9 until I can afford to get the machine work done or buy appropriately sized pistons. Even if I were to double the power though, from what I have been researching on crank tolerances, cylinder pressure and crank tourque, I think it would still handle it for a while. With only 400, I think it will be fine until I get the money to replace it or the money for my World/BigM.

Also, I don't know if you read, but I won't be racing much. The mtoor won't be built for it, don't have the money to drive there either :p

the budget turbo build usually includes some corvette headers turned upside down...keeps you from having to buy/fab some tubular manifolds...
If I go twins, then I will look into that. If I stick with a single, then I will go ahead with my current plan. As for fabrication, I actually want to fabricate the parts. Some may hate fab but I love it. Maybe I'm just different.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

you can just run a cross over pipe from the drivers side mainfold to the passenger...id get some pics, but im lazy.

Got ya covered :p

Tis my plan, but it will require fab to create the PS/ final collector. So either way, I have to fab something. Which is cool for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

adding any kid of boost to basically stock internals (yea I know, forged pistons) will only cause more havoc later... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Motor won't be used later :p, and I'm not gonna be driving it in a way that will cause problems, until it is built in order to handle it.

And also, with support from seevral old geezers who were roots blown on basically stock motors , and a large mustang crowd that is turbod on stock motors, I feel confident that the motor will hold up with the build/useage I plan for.
