I am very new to car audio and I really need some help on figuring out what kind of amp I need to get to power my subs. My buddy gave me his old subs. It is a box with three MTX 10"s in it. There is only one terminal in the back of the box. Each sub has a max rms of 200 watts. They are operating at 4 ohms. please for the love of God would someone tell me what kind of amp I should get to make them sound good. I'm not talking about what brand name to get I'm talking about power specs. please help I've been trying to figure this out for over a week and I just keep geting cryptic answers and many differing opinions-all the while my subs sit in the living room, unable to be installed because I don't know what kind of amp I need to power them???

400w @ 2 ohms.

and take them out of the box, and make sure they are wired as such...

to the terminal on the box.

this amp should push them nicely.

is that 4 ohm per sub or 4 ohm total? if I remember correctly, mtx made a box with 3 12 ohm subs, wired in parallel for a 4 ohm final load. if this is it, then you might want an amp that does max power at 4 ohm (perhaps a simple 2 channel amp?). if the subs are 4 ohm each, then you would want a 1 ohm amp (class d mono?). There are many to choose from for either types of amps. Shouldn't be so difficult, go find the impedance of the subs, then get an amp.
