Focal Plyglass vs Diamond Hex

The polyglass line, well any line with Focal NEED power. It is possible that the polyglass' didn't wow you because they are in a board, possibly they didn't have a beefy enough amp to satisfy them. The only thing I didn't like about the polyglass was the TN45 tweeter. IMO, it is the worst of the Focal tweeters. Brash and almost unbearable. The Diamonds are better than the Polyglass. But to move up to the Focal KP line...like the 165KP comps, around $550, you get the tweeter with the K2P's have, with the Polykevlar midrange. Just no phase plug as with the K2P's. My whole install is Focal speakers and subs, with Audison amps. And I had to upgrade to a more powerful amp to satisfy the midbass needs. So I now have about 150w to each midbass driver. These things love power!

We can tell you all day what you need to hear, but your ears will tell you what you want to own. Search around. Look at the Kicker SS line, check out the Polk SR line. Just don't take our word for it, let your ears decide.

Well, the Hex's that I'm looking at are actually last years model. It's the last pair that they have, floor model even, and they're not budging on price very much. I didn't check to see where they were made (I will on my next trip), but all I can say is that those sounded pretty good and I'm still curious to know what it is about the new Hex's that makes them crap. Just the fact that they're made in China is enough to make them crap?

As for the Bostons, well, they did have a bad setup because they had the mid-bass cut off and they couldn't (or wouldn't?) turn it on. To be fair we did the same to the Diamonds. The thing is, it's the Boston tweeter that I'm iffy about.

**** I hate shopping for car audio. Home audio was tough enough, but it's almost impossible to recreate the sound of your car in a show room. On the plus side, Advance told me that I could buy and self-install the Focals and if I don't like them I could return them for a full refund so long as I'm gentle with them.

Hey everyone!
Okay, I'm looking for a set of 2-way comps for the doors of my '97 Prelude (5th & last generation). I'm looking at the Focal Polyglass 160 v2 and the Diamond Audio Hex s600s (note they are both 6" speakers).

I've listened to the Focal's which I've heard many good things about, expecting to be blown away, but I just wasn't. I felt they were very tight, with clear but not bright highs and tight bass, but they were missing something. I think they were missing mid-bass, it just sounded anemic to me. I think those speakers REALLY need a sub, they just can't stand on their own.

The Focals will do what you want, but you HAVE to pump juice into them. They are a very power hungry set of mids to keep in line. They will do whatever you ask of them as long as you feed them power. I have found mine typically like to have roughly double the rated RMS to perform like I like them and bleed the ears //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
