Flush mount female USB connector for Pioneer P4000 DVD player

I have a 2004 F150 and I just bought a Pioneer P4000DVD receiver and I am looking to do a custom hook up with the USB cable that is provided. I want to have a flush mounted female USB jack that I can plug a USB cable or USB memory stick into, mounted on the panel next to my cigarette outlet. I have searched everywhere for this type of connector and I have found nothing! I was wondering if anybody on here has any suggestions? I am looking for one that mounts like a rocker switch that you cut the opening for and it snaps in to place? I need the other end to have a male USB connector to plug into the Pioneer USB cable out of the Receiver.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Matt

bump...cause I want to know too!

I know they make Computer panel mount USB connectors but they have to be wired up and you would have to make a custom cable and I am not confident enough to try that. It would be nice if they just made a connector or cable that would work for this.

Do you have a link to one of these? There are only four wires in a USB cable (I'm almost 100 percent sure)

so I would want to try this.

Just had a Pioneer USB adapter hooked up to my 800PRS. The installer suggested a Clarion adapter cable from the USB port to a flush mount on the dash. Just as you were seeking, works well and very nice fit/finish. About $22.

Unrelated, much as others I've been slightly dismayed by the USB adapter re: text. Limited to 8 characters for folders, with tracks numbered sequentially within each (although I think you could get the same 8 characters with tracks, the choice is I believe either the folder or the tracks . . . I'll check a bit more). But takes 2 minutes to seek and then present with "about 2 second" scrolling within each of 40 folders/CD's/tracks, then another 2 minutes for an additional seek of 45 more. After that, can scroll through all 85 folders/tracks with ease, but sequentially one-by-one with the limited text display.

My biggest grip . . . for some reason I thought it would read lossless *.wav (or other). No only lossy files. My err when reading docs. But 320 kbps @44.1 is a good tradeoff for mobile use.

FYI Pioneer 800PRS with WD 160GB "My Passport" 2.5 in HDD. No issues with 500 mA requirement in a 2001 Civic.

Sounds like you got ripped, My Kenwood Excelon KDC X791 is flawless on the USB tip

Yeah, with the 800PRS + USB adapter it's annoying if a person were to jump about song to song. But just picking a 'CD' and playing through 'tis o.k. And the unit itself is an excellent unit re: SQ.

With my other Pioneer (700BT) incredible difference for USB, as it reads the entire HDD in about 5 s and jumps about within 1 sec or so folder-to-folder or track-to-track with good text display. That unit also accepts *.wav which is very nice.

I've heard that the USB interface is one of the highlights of those Kenwood units. Almost swayed my decision vs Pioneer. But I live in the 'sticks', and one of the initial reasons I picked Pioneer was that they had the most sensitive AM/FM Rx's of any HU. Indeed, in both my Civic and Jeep, either of the HU's beats the stock units (which is actually not all that common).

I didn't read the whole thread, admitably... but what you're looking for is just a simple male to female USB switch, as for flush mounting, that's on you. An easy way to do it is just fiberglass that bish up.

On most Fords they have spots where things were supposed to go, but if oyu didn't get it they just leave it empty.

So you should find one of those, measure, but a USB male to female cable that long and just install it.
