Flush Mount Amp?

How do you flush mount an amp?

Lets say I have a sub box and want to flush mount the amp on it. Do I have to basically build the box (with the front sides top and bottom extending out another say 2") then build some braces around the amp, then slap a sheet on top of that with the amp hole?

that seems like a lot of wasted space for the desired effect, any other ways of doing this? thanks
