Flaring ends of sonotube port

I am thinking of a sonotube port because i need an 8" port and pvc is a lot more than the $5 for the sonotube.

I have heard a couple ways to make flared ends but I wanted to see what you guys thought.

One way was cutting slits in each end then forming and fiberglassing them

Or using wood rings somehow but im not sure how.

Are there tutorials on this, i tried to search for it but i couldnt find any.

What do you guys think?
