Ive done as much searching as possible on this forum and google and i cant find anything remotely helpful. Im wondering about Flared slot ports, and im sure others have wanted to know about this as well.

First off, how do you make them? Cutting and bending the MDF? But how? Secondly, how does this effect the port tuning? How do you determine the correct tuning? I could use any help at all.

Does this hold true for flared SLOT ports as well? as in only half of the overall flare counts for port volume?

For those of you confused what im talking about, i mean these types of ports... (thanks for THUMPPER for the image, BTW THUMPPER is teh g0dly box maker of all time)

The flares are made by making cuts into the wood almost the entire way through the wood. This allows the wood to be able to bend. You then fill the cracks with wood glue and hold the wood in place. People usually put fiberglass around the bend to strengthen it. I used epoxy for mine and it worked very well.

To calculate the line length, you measure down the middle of the flare path and include about 1/2 of the flare as part of the length of the port. It will be a little more if one side of the port is a flat wall and not flared.
