Flame thrower for exhaust

They did it once on pimp my ride on MTV (haha I know nothing else was on), but the shop owner got pissed and made them take it off. I forget how they did their, I almost remember them using a seperate compustible fluid or gas other than gasolene from the car.

the last one is pretty cheap. if you got the money to spare, why not buy this kit, and then use the parts (it might come with all the nossles and tubes and crap) then just get your pump... i bet you could mount another little jug of somthing in your engine compartment, pump right underneat it... braided fuel line before muffler, nos nossle on that part, and then a spark plug (hooked up to seperate switch) after muffler...

that sounds like it should work to me... and it dosnt sound very expensive at all...

its gonna be a little work for you. i dont know how you would hook up a spark plug. i dont know a **** thing about that. but thats like ~$30

should do the trick. i would prolly use some sort of fluid that burns green it it were me =) maybe add some chemical that dissolves in liquid that burns green? i know that copper burns green... but it will settle if you put powder in it (i know there are chemicals that do this. they also use them in fireworks to make the colors)

good luck :thumbsup

I have done this to a 1973 Plymouth Duster a couple of months back. It was really easy and since we had some parts already it cost a total of $6 for the spark plug wires! Someone already pretty much told you how we did it, we spliced into the wire that goes from the ballast resistor to the coil and put a switch there. We then went to a junkyard and the guy gave us 2 coils for free (he had a dual exhaust) and wired it up so when the switch was pressed it diverted current from the coil to the engine to the 2 coils in the back that connected to a spark plug tapped about 4-5 inches from the tip. All you had to do was rev it up hit the switch with the gas pedal floored and watch the flames! Maybe they are right about it washing out the cylinders of oil but I guarantee it would take a lot of times for it to really do damage. Also, I don't think you can do this if you have cats because it would burn all the excess gas before it got to the end of the pipes. One thing to watch out for is don't let the engine come to a complete stop while doing this or it will backfire and sound like shotgun went off!

anyone think it would work well with propane. Like use the one tanks that are like 14 oz's and maybe mount it in my trunk somewhere. Cause i really don't want to tap into my fuel tank. When one of the bottles gets empty you can unscrew it an switch it out pretty wasy like those propane torches that they are made for.

Anyone know if propane would make a good flame.

i would think it would work, its plenty flammable, butane would work too
lol i was just about to say butane. i think that butane would be better. i knew back in like hot rodding days, you would run a switch to make the carb run richer so that you blow out unburned fuel. hit a button and a spark plug in the pipes would ignite it and shoot out flames. really not possible now cause of cats, but you could probably do it like a coleman propane grill....

Here goes, with a different suggestion:

Use several glow plugs welded after your cat, get a model fuel pump, and a mister nozzle (home depot?). I'd pump the model airplane fuel through a check valve and then to a mister nozzle (or carburetor injector pin, a model airplane shop might have that) and then it'll ignite because of the glow plugs. simple 6v system that can be purchased at a model shop for under a hundred bucks. Fuel would be 15 bucks a gallon though, but it burns mostly clear. The cool part is that it wouldn't be visible for a few inches from the pipe and the edges of the flame, which would be blue.

To me, a blue, almost transparent till the tips flame would be pretty spiffy.

i like that idea thanks

Well, an idea that was suggested to me is using pure oxygen in a tank stored in the trunk that's run to the exhaust. It is flammable, but not explosive like gasoline. But you definitely need a switch for that *****
