Fixing Trunk Rattle

i have a 98 honda prelude with a 12" mtx sub in the trunk (hopefully 1 or 2 type r's soon, i just have to make the switch). as you can tell, i am experiencing trunk rattle, so today, i tried to find out where it was coming from. from what i could hear it is coming from 2 places: the spoiler and the actual trunk lid itself. when i pop the trunk open, no rattle at all. it is really annoying when im listening to music because i cant turn it loud without it rattling too much. the outside sounds disgusting.

anyway, i was just wondering what i could do to fix it. i know there is dynamat but a trunk kit of it costs $200. im looking for cheap fixes that eliminates a very good portion of the rattle.

Go on ebay and get a roll of edead, fatmatt, etc....

... But if you don't wanna wait... Expanding foam works wonders - then you can still use the edead, or whichever other one you purchase - 50ft - 100ft... ( might as well do the enitire trunk,,,, )

where do i apply it in the trunk?
- Remove the carpeting and/or plastic trim in your trunk.

- Use a shop vac (or something) to clean the trunk.

- Clean any residue from the metal with alcohol (or something similar).

- Apply deadener to the metal.

- Use a roller, or your raw fingertips, to ensure there are no air bubbles in the deadening material.

- Reinstall carpeting/trim.

Couldn't be more self explanatory...

Not trying to be a wise *** here but what good will edead/fattmatt do for the actual rattling >?

Solution would seem to be put something in between whats actually rattling or tighten it up.

I thought the sound deadener stuff was for acoustic effect and vibration of quarter panels n stuff.

Id put something in between the spoiler like a piece of conveyor belt cut to length and adjust the "lock" on your trunk. By lock I mean the little bar that your latch attaches too. It should be bolted on and you should be able to move it around at get the trunk to shut super tight.

It's almost impossible to eliminate deck lid rattles. Doesn't hurt to use some deadener, though...

Found this for you, its where I bought my Dynamat Xtreme. I cant comment on the other deadners as I've only used Xtreme but it was a joy to work with, probably worth the price.

Dynamat trunk kit 92.00 This contains 5 18"x32" sheets, they also sell a bulk pack which is 9 18"x 32" sheets, lot of Dynamat for less than you found that 200.00 trunk kit!

thanks for all the help guys. the first thing im going to do is get some screws to tighten up the carpet liner and the plastic piece where the trunk lid closes. then im going to try and get the trunk lid as tight as possible to the trunk. im not buying anything until i try a few things first and if it doesnt work then ill look into some stuff. i have just been really busy lately that i have had no time, so maybe this weekend.

i will keep you guys updated though to see how it goes
