Fishing and Bow-Fishing???? Anyone???

So, Spring is rolling in and the pre-spawn is also (hit and miss in some area's of the south).

I know that many here hunt, but how many of you fish?

I have been hitting a few places for the past 3 weeks, feeling them out. I caught the gar in a Ouchita River Oxbow-Lake in spawn/pre-spawn this past weekend and stuck a few bowfishing.

First, a shot of the sunset on the lake, on my way to shoot some gar bowfishing.



and, a few gar we took. Didn't shoot many, just enough to take home and eat.

A few scissor-bill, spotted, and alligator gar.

Nice scissor-bill gar that my brother stuck.



Good eaten, ready to be cleaned.



If the weather will ever calm down here in Louisiana...and let the water heat up a little, the sacalait and bass will hit the banks soon. I can't wait.

I have caught a few bass here and there so far, but nothing big yet this year.

Anyone else fishing?

I fish every chance i have. its my favorite hobby over anything else. Havnt got to yet, Ky is experiencing all 4 seasons every week so it doesnt stay warm enough yet lol.

That looks like a decent size gar in that pic showing the one with the Arrow in it

The scissor bill with the arrow in it is #2 down from the top in this pic. And that's a 3ft paddle.



We left the lake about 11pm saturday night, and a front moved in. I left my boat on the water thru the rain and had to pump it out monday. We hit the same point monday night, but the water was muddy from the rain. The gar where still VERY heavy in there, but not many big ones. I just shot 3 and gave them to my neighbor, he wanted some fresh gar.

I left my boat tied to the pier, plan to hit em again this weekend.

nice, im not into bow-fishing my self i like line & reel just for the fight from larger fish. I love to catch Carp, i dont eat them but they are a fun fight when you get a good one on.

Never gotten to bowfish for gar, only carp. Probably one of the most fun things that I do in the springtime. We used to fill up jon boats full of carp, hundreds of em.

I feel you on this. I was hoping for some decent fishing weather for my spring break, but that did not happen. I found out that when I'm at school, I'm only an hour away from the big marina at Lake Cumberland and I'm like half an hour from Lake Herrington and only about 10 minutes from the river. Certainly bringing back some of my gear to hit them up on the weekends.

But I normally fish for large mouth bass, crappie, and some catfish from time to time. I've also had lots of experience fishing the Saint Johns River and Lake George/Dexter down in Florida and love it down there.

I've always wanted to go bow fishing, but just haven't taken the initiative to try it yet haha.

yea, next week is suppose to be pretty decent, i kind of have to wait til it stays warm consistantly tho so i can take my little girl catfishing with me and the wife lol.

Get her started on fishing early like my dad did with me.
