Im thinking about building a center console box. I want it to look as stock as possible so Im looking for some kind of coating that will make it look like a factory plastic. Maybe a paint with some kind of texture to it. I dont think Ill be able to vinyl wrap it due to the shape

There are paint products that mimic vinyl but you'd be surprised what you can do with 4 way stretch vinyl.

I'm too lazy to link the thread to mine. It's over in DIYMA in a review I did on some PHD components. Mine is matched to the general shape of the factory center console and had a vinyl top. It's not the best looking box, but it houses two 10" subs sealed.

thanks, I found the pic. nice looking console, but not stock looking enough for me. I need it to look like it came with the truck or my wife will ***** every time she sees it

NO NO NO NO NO on the Plasti Dip! Been there, done that, have a console to redo. This one:

Plasti Dip is really cool but it is not very resistant to abrasion. Your best option is vinyl or an automotive grade interior paint product. Just call a local automotive paint supply and they can sell you what you need.

the shape will strongly determine how stock it looks - so maybe make a fiberglass mold using an actual console.

you can stretch saran wrap on wet paint to mimic vinyl but your best bet is to use actual vinyl and leather for the armrest. matching factory colors will be tricky.
