Finally got around to TUNING !

Well, there's a DIYma sq meet this Saturday (Aug 11th) and my system had ZERO EQing done til tonight. All I had done were x-over points and time-alignment.

since my laptop sucks, i had to haul my PC down to the garage and put together my RTA setup, which was a PITA. I'm not sure if I did it correctly, but it's sounding good so far. Some freqs were very low, so there are some freqs eq'd up to +6-7db, which sounds bad to me... I read that it's better to tune down the frequencies to match those that are too low, but they were way too low.

For now, I tuned Right + Left channels together. I dont' think I'm ready to tune them separately. That will be for later.

I'm just glad i got myself up to do this and thought I'd like to share.

here's some pics of how things went down.

I had second thoughts about posting this here, since most of the members here are bassheads or into "SQL," as they say.

I need to get a bottle of frebreeze to get your stank out of the pods....

small world. good job on them btw. i love 'em

who much did that mic setup cost you?
The whole setup costed me around $100 or so.

The setup consists of a Behringer UB802 to power the mic (ECM8000).

the UB802 was bought second hand and came with a mic cord.

as for the program, I got that for free by downloading the free trial and finding a crack to get the full version.

so far, it's sounding really nice. I already liked it w/o any EQing, but now it's more smooth.

When I EQ'd it last night, i tried to get it as flat as I could, then I saved it to a preset. From there I tried to get a nice looking curve.

I believe tuning everything flat is to set a starting point to EQing your system. I doubt most people listen to their system when it's flat.

I wish I could've spent more time on it, but my GF was getting lonely and it was already 1am.

High quality pics with tips/tricks, pointers and suggestions plz. thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I got a little use to this TrueRTA program. Increasing the averages helped out and the 'peak hold' featured also came in handy.

I wish i had a laptop that was RTA friendly, so i can tune my system w/o all this PC hassle. The next time I haul my PC into the garage, I'm gonna take my sweet time and try to tackle the right and left channels seperately.

I did the same thing with essentially the same TrueRTA setup. Got it as flat as I could... Sounded like a big steaming piece of crapola. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif But using it, I did learn where the issues were, which this time weren't all too bad, since the reinstall.

Oh and my sub was at zero as well otherwise I couldn't get the bass anywhere near flat.

You realize the proggie has much higher 1/24 octave resolution if you want it, right? Just curious if there was a reason you used 1/3.

Anyhow, I'll be bringing my setup to the meet... My unlock code will be written on a piece of paper in my mic bag. If you or anyone else copies it down without my knowledge... oops! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Finally, if the only problem with your laptop is the soundcard, a simple USB soundcard solves that. I even bought that mixing board u have there but didn't need it with the soundcard. It's ok though, gave it to stepdad-in-law for Christmas. Recycled xmas gifts ftw.

I'd be interested to see the settings on your flat preset. You could probably tell me where I went wrong with mine too, I have it preset.... Why? I have no earthly idea.

well. i just spent an hour washing my car. so ill be doing some rta stuff today. it should be fun, its overcast and not hot as hell today wich is nice.

i should have some neat pictures by tomrrow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
