Finally got around to installing my system...

So I finally got all of my wiring and everything installed into my Civic.

I built a 2.5cu ft sealed box out of left over materials from my previous box.

Got it all sanded down and sealed up tight......

It sounds awful! Well...on rock/metal and that type of music it sounds fine.

I throw in some bass cd's or rap and ugh......doodoo!

Think I will be taking up the offer to send in my 12's for a ported box and 2 12" Skars

Man.....I can definately tell the difference between my ported box and this sealed box.

I am sure I could adjust my gains and crossovers and get it to sound better....that will be tomorrow.

But still.....what a let down.

ya sealed just lacks low end from my experience. though i havent tried building a large large sealed box to see if it can do any good that way

you know what will help...try this out. go get some tin foil, electrical tape, a drill grinder, some pillow stuffing, a little elmers glue and a hammer,

then take the hammer and smash the sub....then you will know whats wrong

There is nothing wrong with the sub. Yes they are JL's....I got them off craigslist a long time ago..chill.

I was talking with the guys that sell the Skar VVX12 or whatever they are. If I send in my 12's they will do a ported box and 2 12" Skars + some money.

Think I might go that route.....really dont feel like building another ported box and this time I could get 4ohm DVC subs instead of 2ohm and be able to wire then down to 1ohm for my amp. Might just be the best route.

Going sealed, you rely a lot on the subs themselves. If you want low end, while going sealed, you are going to need subs with a low Fs and that have good excursion. The w3's arn't the worst choice here but just arn't going to produce a lot of low end bass being sealed. You would need more cone area and excursion (overall displacement) and a low frequency response to achieve good low bass while being sealed. Of course the enclosure and power you're running will also effect your output. Porting also makes your subs more efficient, so going sealed you rely more on how much power you're feeding them.

If you go to the Skar website/forum they are doing sub exchanges.

I sent them an email and they said if I send them my JL 12's they would send me 2 12 Skars and a ported box + some money on my end.

I am not sure what they do with my subs...maybe they break em down and make other subs out of em..who knows.

Seemed like a pretty good deal.

The other route was to buy 2 subs...build a box. Then sell my JL's on craigslist.

I had these JL's in a 3.5cu ft ported box tuned to 32hz and they sounded really good.

The box is just too big for my new car, so took some left over MDF and just built a sealed box. Figured I would see if I liked it and keep some trunk room.

Well I hate it! lol. So I am either going to send my JL's in for the trade, or I will build another 3.5cu ft box and save for some SA 12's or something.

I will just build it to my new cars dimensions instead.

On a good note....my mids/tweet are sounding really good. But my amps are getting warm. I took a hour drive and when I got home I popped the trunk and felt the amps. They were pretty hot....the mid/tweet amp was hotter then the sub amp.

So tomorrow I will get in and check the voltage and things.

I was only able to get 2/3 of the Big 3 done. Got the grounds...but the battery terminal I have only has 1 1/0 and 1 4ga....so didnt run the alternator portion.

Going to order some Tsunami double 1/0 terminals and replace these hopefully by next weekend.

mmmm....not sure how to look at that, lol.

Well, the wife said I have to clean up the back yard and then I can get new subs. So....at my lazy rate might be awhile, lol.
