Finally, EVERYTHING arrives. - Pics -

i dont like the HU either.
i bought my girl one. i mean it works but it started skipping on clean cd's after like 2 months //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

could be an isolated issue though.

as for the install. every thing is straight forward. disconnect your ground and make sure its away from the neg terminal on the batt.

run your power wire, rcas, remote turn on lead, speaker wires to the cargo area. get the power wire through the firewall to the front battery. get the speaker wire to the front/rear door using the little rubber boot. get the rcas, up through the dash into the headunit space. connect the HU (99% of time just match the colors to the wires on the wiring harness).

connect the HU to the rca's, and the remote turn on lead. mount the amps in the back. give each one power. and wire up a ground back there while your at it, if you dont want to run one all the way back to the battery. mount the speakers etc and that should be it.

Cool that helped a lot. It sounds fairly doable for me ( knocks on wood ). For the wiring harness I said a 02 Explorer and they gave me like a 85-89 explorer. I was wondering if they just sent that one because the newer explorers are similar or did they send me the wrong one?

well i know my wiring harness is different from my 94 sport to my 98.

i mean you can hard wire it in there without the connecter, its just way easier to do it with the connecter because you can do everything outside the car, the just mount it in, and clip it.

if the connector doesnt fit, you can pick up one from walmart for cheap. and if wal mart is sold out, head to best buy. i think they are around 15 bucks...but dont quote me. been a while since i bought one. last ones i got for free from crutchfield.

Id run it at 2ohms first... less ohms arent always better, and if you get 2 batterys, its best to Match them... Like 2 yellow tops, or 2 Kinetics....you know what i mean. and make sure you use a good ground.. a good ground as in... see if you can get to the frame, if not... use a seatbelt bolt, but use a wire brush to make sure all paint etc is off ect. Just dont skimp and youll enjoy endless hrs of bass
As for head unit settings...and amp settings, which are as important if not more than the install... Take a ride to your local car audio shop and ask them to check out your new setup you installed and ask them what they would reccomend it to be set at.... Not best buy or anything like that.. never them... anyway, because if you set your filters wrong and gains wrong... what may make you smile and go wow thats loud for about an hour... then youll be like ohh whats that smell an by the next day your sub will be a paper weight. Dont be the arrogant kid and just be like yea but its louder at this level, when the audio guy tells you its better at a lower setting, hes saving your subs life and your money!
Yes I think i'll do 2 ohms first until I get a couple batterys and a HO alt then switch to 0.5 ohms, don't really want to burn my amp this early in the game. Should I get a multimeter ( think thats what their called ) so i can test the voltage at 0.5 and 2 ohms to see the difference?

Ok well I heard good things about both those batteries, but Yellow tops are a bit cheaper i think. Also thats a good idea to take it to a shop, the nearest ones by my house would be Car Toys or Car Stereo. They should check it out real quick for free hopefully. And for the amp settings i've ready multiple times on here for bass boost at 0, gain below 50% or something, i'm really just not sure on the other ones such as LPF, but i think i recall a thread on setting up an amp so i'll go check that out.

thanks guys xD

Ok thats probably what i'll do if it doesn't fit, thanks for your help man.

Don't forget to run the cable for the remote bass knob for the SD amp. Easy to leave it sitting off to the side and find it after all the panels are back in place. Done that before...

Yeah, once you get it all installed, a trip to the car toys place would be a good idea, most car audio guys that know what there doing dont mind coming out and checkin out your setup and giving good suggestions, ive been in the hobby for about 7 years and I still have go to guys that I look for advice or suggestions from

And Yes get a good multimeter and learn how to use it, it will be a good friend to you once you do! As far as batterys, yea Kinetics are more expensive, but for just starting out, I personally would go with 2 yellow tops, one up front and one in the back. Ive been running 2 for the past 6 years and havnt had any major problems yet, once you get a HO alt. then start looking in to 17v kinetics, but from what you are going to run now, the optima yellows will work perfectly!

As for the inital high pass and low pass and gain settings, def. read up on here about what they do, and how they work, once you know that, its pretty gravy to setup... Once you get real good you can put it on a term lab (DB meter) if you have access to one, and you can find out where your peak frequency is and adjust around that to make it even sweeter!

looks nice.

about that head unit, its really not bad. i got my girlfriend one around last christmas or so and havnt had a single problem with it. 3 band EQ , 3 sets of preouts iirc. its not a bad unit for the price. id get another for myself if i was going for a budget HU. im sure youll be happy with it.

Good luck with the install. Post some build log pictures up of the Explorer as well so I can prepare myself for my Explorer.

Just take your time and don't rush, your bound to make a mistake if your rushing to finish.

the HU is fine, i have it, and even though i'd like a bit more flashy, and one w/ more eq options it does what i need.

havent had cd's skip tho, unless i hit a big pothole or something.

Looks nice though, have fun w/ it.
