I just wanted to thank the board for the lessons and although I've been semi active I've mostly been reading and learning. I think I might actually stick around because it is an interesting hobby and I'm still learning alot, and know at least enough now to participate and learn or help. I've come a long way in catching up on knowledge in the last 2 months as funds and time permitted me to build my system.
And now, after a few glitches all I can say is it is a true pleasure to be in my car, and FINALLY the system sounds like what I've wanted for many years.
I listen to all kinds of music, but this morning running the system through it's paces to make adjustments on the head unit I put it on the local Jazz Station and a quartet was playing.
All 4 of those instruments were IN my car playing the full range sound I would expect at a piano bar or concert.
Outstanding!
Still haven't done the big three, but what I did do was done very carefully and I don't think i'm pulling too much power. My lights don't dim etc.
I still want to wire my system to a Optima aux battery for car off listening pleasure with a solid starting battery to make sure I still get home, But for the most part I'm very pleased.
I think my front stage might benefit from a few component tweeters a bit higher on the dash or door posts, but that's just icing. My car, even at low volume just sounds rich and powerful, the bass is tight and punchy.
Woot!
The main challenge now will be to adjust the xovers. I'm happy with the current sound, but I just sort of set everything at the recommended defaults like 80 hertz for sub and above for 2 ways. I might experiment a bit to see if a movement or two can make it even better. Also, I've decided that I should just turn my xovers on the HU off and use only the set at the amps. I was afraid duplicating the same xovers at both amp and HU would possibly cut out part of the spectrum since it's not precisely 80.
I figure use one or the other, And I assume that the Amps have a beefier circuit for this than the HU due to space and design limitations on the H.U. Only problem being that I can't adjust it from the drivers seat while I'm listening to it.
Anyway as usual I'm being long winded and veering off course.
I just wanted to thank the board and all you great knowledgable hobbiests and audiophiles out there for making my job easier, and more successful!
