I'm filipino and I frankly don't care about this. People get it wrong all the time. Idiots who think i'm Chinese. I've been known as Chinese since kindergarten and I've heard it all lol so there's not much that bothers me now.
But anyway, when I was growing up, they had us fill out those bubble things for state tests for school and whatnot. And the bubble that I always filled in went like this: Asian/Pacific Islander. It's one in the same in many ways, but also different at times.
I was born and raised here. That's right- I am legal and I am a natural US citizen. Though I am one quarter chinese (barely noticable), I do consider Filipinos asian because of "continental zoning" and the things we share in common with the other asian countries. Most Filipinos have Chinese blood, I know my family does.
Doesn't matter to me. You are ignorant if you don't know the difference and if you actually make a big deal about it.
