Fiberglass question

So I built a custom console and speaker box for my truck. They are both built completely out of MDF, but I was planning to cover with fiberglass just for cosmetic purposes when I paint the interior. My question is since they don't really need the glass for strength do I need to use cloth/mat or would it be fine to just cover with resin?

Resin works well for hiding seams and sealing the edges but you need to prime the whole thing with a good quality (preferably urethane or epoxy) primer before you paint.. regardless of whether or not you glass it.
