Ok, to start with this is my trunk:

My Subwoofer: It is an Ascendant Audio Avalanche 18"

Fs = 16 Hz

Qms = 6

Vas = 550 Liters

Xmax = 27mm

Sd = 1210 sq. cm

Qes = 0.429

Re = 3.2 ohms

Le = 2.4 mH

Z = 4 ohms

Dual 2 Ohms coils wired in a series w/ a 1k watt RMS amp on it

I want to make a large ported box for this mofo...I plugged in some specs into bb6, and going for this:

Type: Vented Box

Shape: Sphere

Vb = 17.99 cubic feet

Fb = 15.04 Hz

QL = 5

F3 = 15.66 Hz

Fill = None

Vent Shape = Rectangle

Hv = 20 inches

Wv = 5 inches

Lv = 65 Inches

Vent will be a labyrinth, gonna have 3 rows...

Total size with the wood will be a 18x22.17x21.5 box

18.92, 5.75,15.67,5.75,18.92=65.01

I guess I need 23.5 Cubic feet (it is the total) out of my trunk...I'm gonna glass the wheel well, ect. I'm gonna do some measurements of my trunk later to see if this is possible, if I have to make the box smaller I guess I could toss in some poly fill, right? I can fit in the trunk no problem, I can sit up straight in the wheel well, and still have a good amount of room, so I should be able to get 23.5 cubic feet out of it, eh?

Alright, now about the fiberglassing....

I'm wondering about how much resin I'll need, that and what kinda of mat and cloth fabierglass I should get...I'm going to order it off of uscomposites, so if you could, point me in the right direction...

Basically I was going to try and tackle the project this way:

Make a baffle that will have the port hooked up to it, angle it so I get about a 45 degree angle and face it torwards the cabin...Cut it to fit in the trunk, and allow the trunk lid to close, brace it with some wooden dowels. Next outline the rest of the box with mdf around the sides of the trunk because of the odd shape, in the corner of the trunk, shoot expanding foam to fill and deadend the corners kinda like this:

Then I'd glass the wheel well up to the sides, Make an 18" MDF Ring (make it so the sub flush mounts), mount it in place with wooden dowels in which I should be ready to fleece and form the top part of the box.

Now as for that I want to paint it black...I need some tips on what kinda of fiberglass to use and techniques...then I need some tips on milkshakes, bondo ect, so I can get this sucker smooth as glass before I paint it. Please point me torwards the right fiberglass/bondo/paint and primer for me...thanks for all the help guys.

23.5 cubes? wowzaz! im guessing that huge *** port is gonna take up bout near half of that... idk that i'd tune that low, but also im not farmiliar with that sub... should be pretty nice tho...

the port is like 5 cubic feet?~
SHIT!! thats almost as big as my box for my 2 12L7s hahaha 100sq in port is prolly fine, but if u tune a little higher like maybe 30-32hz that port will be considerably smaller and you'll have lots more trunk space

what was the speccs of the box in the pics? it looks much smaller

That was about 6.25 cubes, it was my old box for the 4 type R's I used to have.

It wasn't bad at all....I think the 6.25 cubes as actual airspace inside it, not the size of it and the wood like the port.

I've been thinking of raising the freq. of the port, I'm just wondering why bbpro6 "recommened it"

I'm just wondering why bbpro6 "recommened it"
well i never used bbpro but maybe it doesnt take the car into account? cabin gain will have a large impact on low end response, so maybe it is compensating for that...

actually unless u had to enter what kind of car or what airspace in the car... its possible thats why it wants to tune so low for a flat response

thats a huge box and a huge port.

both would be bigger than the wall in my car.

I recommend sizing it down quite a bit...and raising the tuning.

the way it stands now, it would peak near 20 HZ......

Yeah, I went back into bb6 to adjust the settings of the driver, I sent AA an email to get the right ones, according to bb6 it peaked at 30hz or so, however I'm going to go ahead and re-do it so that I get the right design to get the msot out of that speaker...I'm still planning on building a large box, but we'll see what will work best later.

I still need some advice on all the glassing, sanding, bondo, techniques, suggestions, ect....that is what I wanted most out of this thread
