FIBERGLASS - Online for cheap?? Want THICK

Going to be building a new box soon, and instead of building a basic square between the wheel wells like I always do, Id like to go over my wheel wells and general weird shape of the sides of my car, and get all the possible air space a possible and make it mostly out of fiberglass.

The front baffle, bottom, rear and top, most likely will be MDF, but the sides will be full fiberglass, and then the entire thing lined with glass 1-2 layers.

Is there a cheap online source for mat? I only have some thin chop mat available locally, and its like $8/yard. Ive already found cheaper on ebay.

But I dont know if I should simply buy TONS of thin stuff (6oz mat) or if I should buy somer like 24oz thick *** matt. I dont know how many layers I will need to get sufficient strength.

Anybody have a source, or a suggestion, possible idea how ammount of glass needed. I can get resin for $40/gallon local, and shipping would **** on a can to canada, so Ill probly just stick to local for that.

Thanks for any help

1.50 per sq ft, what weight mat is that

If you do indeed sell mat for a good price, let me know what is best to go with (thick vs thin) and how much Im looking at, Id rather buy from a ca.com member than a business for sure.

Pm me if youd like, Ive gotta jet to work

Thanks for posting up though

idk oz size. but if you look at the cloth i have pictured in my fs thead, the strands in it is about 4 times as big as whats in the pic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif i'll post pix torrow if you like...

Ya man if you can throw me a pic Id appreciate it, something to get a grasp, Im basically just looking for the most weight/cloth per dollar you can get me. Are you ok shipping this stuff to canada? I noticed you said in your thread you wouldnt ship resin up here.

Im probably looking for like 25 yards Id imagine? How wide is the cloth you sell

Anyone else have a hookup

I would see wat US Composites will ship you resin for...cause your gonna need a chit ton...i used 1.5 gallons on door pods alone.
Your pods must be huge lol, I used maybe 1/2 gallon for mine and they hold 4 6.5's.

Resin aint to expensive, and I live in canada so shipping would be a big killer on it. Mats just expensive, I emailed hamilton marine and they gave me a **** good price on the 24oz mat which is thick as hell. But Ill see what slapmaster can get

mixed sizes. 1'x2'-3'x3'...

"Im probably looking for like 25 yards Id imagine?" 1'x 24yrds? thats enough to glass a kidy pool lol.. that's going to weigh about 40lbs. you should check shipping from 36609 mobile al. to you.

Well Im gonna be making a 16ish cubic foot box, only the sides will be glassed completely, but they will be 32" tall and like 20" deep with curves. Then I want to put 1-2 layers throughout the entire box...... so Im just guessing how much mat Id need, they obviously need to be fairly thick, as the box if for 3 18's on 3000+

I dunno, Ill check shipping and just guess a box size I guess

one layer of chop mat(because it conforms better).use it threw out the inside of the box and wheel homps. let it get hard. sand it(scuff it). then come back with heavy cloth mat. two layers of the cloth mat.

if you only use chop mat, use no less than 5 layers on the sides. one or two will be fine on the inside of the box thow.

well never mint what i just posted. i was thinking of a lot smaller box.

larg sides like you have, i would go with the no less than five layers of the heavy cloth mat. and the curves will help make it even stronger.

thin layers are easier to apply, thick requires less layers. if you are experienced with fg then you can go thick but if not thin is easier to apply. either way you have to have enough layers so that it will not flex. if you can stand on it with no flex (and weight 150-200lbs) it is strong enough.

that being said, based on your needs (3k+ of power) i would layer it up until you though it was thick enough and then add at least another 1/4"-3/8" on top of that.

if the box is built properly there should be no need to glass the inside of it. fg ain't cheap but mdf is.
