fiberglass and square footage

ok im a n00b, and i can admit to it so im using my n00bish powers to ask a question that is probably simple or is asked all the time, but i cant find it so ill ask it again. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

ok i see these sub boxes done with fiberglass like over a wheel well or in some crazy curvey positon, an i know a sub needs so many feet squared or cubed or whatever to sound good. so how do you people find the square footage of one of those crazy lookin boxes???

that being said you may want to search the word calculate or check out the sticky... good info there

Put a plastic bag inside the enclosure and fill it with water. Just be careful not to rip the bag.

I use that method when I build fiberglass enclosures but I also resin the inside in-case the water gets in there.

Since most of the fiberglass boxes you see are sealed, the volume doesn't have to be that precise in the first place. The overwhelming majority of subs out there will work in a large range of volumes sealed. When you go to ported things get much more complicated and being off a bit in the volume will not only affect the volume but the tuning as well. The result is instead of the desired outcome that would have sounded good you have the true outcome that sounds like garbage.
