fi question

Put it in a sealed box, or find more room. Where are you placing it so that you only have 3.2 cubic feet to work with?
1) a BTL in a sealed box will sound like shit

2) a 15" BTL in 3.2 cu ft b4 DD and Port, wil choke it and will not sound good at all

3) I suggest going with the 12, bc it will be closer to the right box size and you will be much happier

well im upgrading from 2 JL w3v2's and I really hope to blow it out of the water SPL wise. I want it to sound decent but all I really care about is loudness. Thats why I really want to go with a 15.

what if it was closer to 3.5 before aeroport and driver displacement?

this is going in the well of my 94 camaro. Subthumps largest well enclosure is 3.2 cubes and I planned on adding an aeroport to that.

I'm really thinking of glassing my own box if possible. I just don't know how to measure the volume of a custom glassed box in order to determine correct port length. Also, I don't know how to join mdf and glass. (top of box would be MDF baffle, bottom glassed well)

Just go with the 12 you wont be dissapointed.

how much airspace would I need before driver and port displacement?

just want to know if its worth glassing to get extra cubes and get a 15

It's hard to say but I would think 5 cubic feet would be a pretty safe bet if you made a modestly sized port and inverted the subwoofer. Also, remember to take box density into account. 3/4 MDF eats up a good amount of airspace.

Although you really should work the other way around. Start with 3-4 cubic feet of airspace for the sub, add displacement, box density, and port displacement. Then you'll have a more appropriate figure.

hmm.. what kind of effect would running a 15" btl in slightly too little airspace cause?

thats all i really needed to say but it won't let me post since the length is too short.

jeeze your hilarious

no ****ing shit. I realize it won't sound good as I've been told that several times.

I just want to know what exactly is affected by running it in a box thats too small.

Does it make take away from SPL? Will I not hit the lows as well? less speaker range?

thats what im asking...

poor low end extension

poor efficiency

usually (but not always) a loss in potential SPL

peaky response curve
